The information presented here is based on converstions with J. Dowd and H. Willutzki. They have used prints and P.O.'s from Bicron to reconstruct this information. The "outer box" is that depicted in C.O.'s drawings. The drawing below shows the entire DEA/CPV package. Details on individual components follows.
The scintillator is Bicron BC 408. We are assuming that the Pb sheets are of identical height and width. The Pb sheets come in two thicknesses:
The Pb sheets contain 6% Sb (Antimony). The total thickness is 1.752" of Pb (8 radiation lengths) plus 3.54" of scintillator for a total thickness of 5.292". Each section of the DEA is enclosed in an aluminum box. The boxes have 0.25" thick top and bottom walls, and 0.5" thick front, back, and sides, and are slightly oversized. The outside dimensions of the boxes are:
this leads to inner dimensions of:
The sizes and locations of the sensitive areas of DEA are thus as follows (assuming that the center of the hole is at (x,y) = (0,0):
Component | Size | Location (upper left corner) | |||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
width (x) | height (y) | thickness (z) | x | y | |
Top | 53.84" | 15" | 5.292" | -26.92" | +23.00" |
Bottom | 53.84" | 15" | 5.292" | -26.92" | -8.00" |
Left | 21" | 15.88" | 5.292" | -34.45" | +7.44" |
Right | 21" | 15.88" | 5.292" | +13.44" | +7.44" |
Assuming that the inner edges of the left and right sides of CPVC are aligned 0.5" from the edges of the hole in DEA (i.e. aligned with DEA scintillator), and that these side pieces are centered on the hole, yields the following positions for the elements:
Component | Size | Location (upper left corner) | |||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
width (x) | height (y) | thickness (z) | x | y | |
Top | 54" | 15" | 1 cm | -27.00" | +22.969" |
Bottom | 54" | 15" | 1 cm | -27.00" | -7.969" |
Left | 21" | 15.938" | 1 cm | -36.50" | +7.969" |
Right | 21" | 15.938" | 1 cm | +13.50" | +7.969" |
